four san jose state students accused of hate crimes. mark kelly reports they need to use this incident as a teaching moment. >> reporter: this san jose silicon valley n aacp says the racial harassment that reportedly happened in these dorms is a felony. not a misdemeanor. asking the santa clara d. a. to increase the charges. currently freshmen colin warren, joseph bum garner, and logan beachler and one minor are suspended from school and facing a series of alleged hate crime against the victim, an african-american freshman. >> i know those things do still happen today. but it's definitely disheartening. >> and there hasn't been much outreach at all by any ras and i feel like they can be doing a better job. >> reporter: allegations include racial slurs like calling the victim three fifths a slavery era racial slur. even putting a bike lock around the victim's neck. this incident is just the most recent trouble to hit campus. school administration has been under fire after an online education project faced a rocky start. reports faculty morale is low and word at one point spring classes
